SHELLEBRATE! Your online one-stop shell shop is here to bring Shellegance into your home (or grotto) wherever that home (or grotto) may be in any corner of the world.
“I will be making shells out of ceramics for the rest of my life, so if you do not find enough shells here, do not panic! (#shelllavie) I am already making the next wave!” – L de M
Shells will be uploaded here every 2-3 months in conjunction with the full moon high tide (please subscribe to our mailing list or follow us on Instagram, @shellegance, for less cryptic shell upload dates in the future)!
Shells are sold on a first come first serve basis. If you are wanting a once-off large wall of shells (50+) please do not hesitate to get in touch directly with the artist: email@example.com.
Shellegance is the result of a casual Tuesday evening pottery class with friends in 2018. Why shells? Lucie has been a massive shell lover/collector/mermaid wannabe her whole life! She loves the organic wabisabi shapes of the shells and their endless textures and colours.
Lucie’s love of ceramics making has rapidly grown in recent years, and she has since exhibited 6 sell-out shows and installations, with shells travelling to all corners of the globe to adorn many beautiful homes and spaces. Shellegance has also had fabulous international media coverage in the World of Interiors magazine and the FT How To Spend It, to name a few.
Each ceramic shell in this shop is unique. Lucie de Moyencourt loves to improvise with her brushwork and colours and approaches each shell whimsically. The artist is given a chance to experiment with the complex and mystical mediums of Stoneware, Porcelain, Earthenware, Underglazes, Glazes and sometimes also Lustre. You might see iterations and repeats in patterns and colours, but as each shell is handmade and hand-painted, no two shells will ever be the same, making them highly collectible.
In this shop you will find handy search buttons where you may search for shells according to their size or colour.
Each shell comes with its own custom brass wire hanging device made by wire artist, George Magaso. The shells might look like plates, but do not be fooled; they are very poor performing plates! Due to their undulating edges, any sauce is sure to spill! It is recommended to keep them as purely decorative wall hanging ceramics.
Please note that the brass wire used for the hanging device is a one bend wire (do not try to bend it twice as it will snap). If you would like to tilt your shell to a different angle, we recommend hanging it off the nail by the brass attachment and securing it with putty to your desired angle.

These collections consist of over 170 fine art prints painted in black ink by Lucie de Moyencourt at various points over the last 7 years. There are many collections to discover, from the earliest City Bowl exhibition covering Cape Town’s famous inner-city spaces to 2019’s City Bowl and Beyond collection.
You can now search through these ever-expanding collections by theme or collection: sea, mountain, architecture.
Lucie de Moyencourt is an ex-architect. She loves to look at the city and spaces around her and observe the buildings and people within it. She chooses to paint scenes of life and living; everyday snapshots are painted in many layers of black ink one on top of one another to give an almost photographic quality.
Each fine art print has been professionally scanned and edited to ensure the highest quality. Each print is available in one of 4 sizes: A3 ( the smallest), A2, A1, and A0 (the largest). Please note that this refers to the printed size of the artwork and not the paper size as there is extra paper padding added around the fine art print. Additionally, each print is a limited edition of 50 and will be printed on the highest quality archival German etching paper 310g. Each fine art print will be signed and editioned as well as embossed with Lucie De Moyencourt’s studio stamp for authenticity.
These prints are printed on-demand as the orders are processed on a weekly basis.
All prints are sold unframed and will be packaged safely in a hard cardboard tube.
If you are interested in purchasing 10 or more prints, please email us directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org for a better rate.
If you are in Cape Town and would like to collect directly from our offices instead of waiting for the courier, you can select free collection upon checkout.
In addition to fine art prints, Lucie has created 3 different postcard packs featuring 10 A5 postcards of her Cape Town ink paintings. These are City Bowl, Mountains, and Sunday Drive (featuring 10 postcards scenes from the Cape Peninsula drive). There is also a 2021 Calendar featuring 12 Cape Town ink drawings celebrating Cape Town’s beautiful outdoor spaces.
